ALA & WLN – LEGAL & BUSINESS CONFERENCE 2024

The ASEAN Legal Alliance (ALA) and Warwick Legal Network (WLN) successfully hosted their Annual Business Forum on September 27, 2024, under the theme “Riding Global Trends.” The conference brought together legal experts, business leaders, and policymakers from across the ASEAN region and beyond to explore the intersection of law, business, and sustainability.

A notable feature of the event was its carbon-neutral status, with carbon credits sponsored by Uwork999 Co., Ltd., a Bangkok-based construction services company. This commitment to sustainability highlights ALA and its partners’ dedication to reducing environmental impact and supporting green initiatives in the region.

The event was graced by His Excellency Chuan Leekpai, former Prime Minister of Thailand, who delivered a keynote address. Chuan emphasized the crucial role of the rule of law in fostering a thriving business environment, particularly during periods of rapid transformation. He underscored the importance of consistent and reliable legal frameworks for ensuring economic, environmental, and technological stability.

The conference featured a series of panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities aimed at navigating the complexities of global economic changes. Key sessions included the “Thailand Investment Opportunities” panel, moderated by Khun Siriporn Chaiyasuta, which examined Thailand’s competitive positioning in the global market. Panelists such as Mr. Danucha Pichayanan from the National Economic and Social Development Council and Ms. Jareeporn Jarukirnsakul from WHA Corporation Pcl. explored investment incentives, technological advancements, and infrastructure developments in Thailand.

The forum also focused on emerging trends such as Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation. The “Business Under the ESG Era” panel, moderated by Khun Kittinut Supsoontornkul, featured insights from leaders like Dr. Virat Somsri, an environmentalist from the Department of Climate Change & Environment, and Mr. Alex Wan, CEO of Star Century Group. Discussions centered on how ESG considerations are reshaping corporate governance and legal compliance, as well as the role of carbon credits and sustainable business practices.

Throughout the event, participants engaged in meaningful discussions on intellectual property in the digital age, cross-border corporate law, and sustainable real estate investment. These conversations are expected to foster strategic collaborations and shape future policies that will guide the evolution of law and business in ASEAN and beyond.
